Well, it doesn’t really feel like the seasons are changing anymore. As I’m writing this on Wednesday, it’s in the mid- to upper-90s outside and we’re running around trying to keep all of the cool-weather fall crops happy. Not only is it excessively hot (and has been and looks like it’s going to continue to be next week), but it has also been an extremely dry September thus far. We’ve only gotten a third of an inch of rain so far this month, which sure doesn’t help keep the fall crops happy in these temperatures.
While the weather has had a negative affect on some crops, notably head lettuce and lettuce mix, both of which we anticipate having in smaller quantities this week as a result, the warmer temperatures have been beneficial to others. The tomato plants have put on unexpected new growth and we’ve gotten a nice little bump in the harvest of slicing tomatoes this week. Additionally, Mike harvested the first of the cabbage today, about a week or two ahead of last year’s harvest date.
Check out our full harvest list below and we’ll see you at Burke this Saturday.

September 12, 2019Incredibly dry here too. Got back just in time to save the hydrangas, Japanese anemones & now watering
the forsythia, incredible. Looking forward to head lettuce when its happier. Very happy to be back at
the mkt this week. Can’t wait to sample those potatoes & so glad you still have garlic.
