Coming soon

As spring moves towards summer, more and more crops are becoming ready to harvest, so the selection at the market continues to grow nearly weekly. I’ve had a lot of questions about what new things will be available in the coming weeks, so wanted to do a quick update about what crops to expect soon! In the next few weeks, look forward to the first kohlrabi and spring onions. Spring onions look like huge scallions, but are really the uncured form of the onions most of us are used to eating. We harvest them before they are at the life stage when they can be cured for storage, so, like a scallion, they are usable from the bulb all the way through the green tops.

Additionally, in the next month, we will start to have snap peas, carrots, and beets. We grow both red and yellow beets. Although the red variety is the more common one, I actually prefer the yellow beets as I find their flavor a little milder and sweeter. Piracicaba broccoli should also be coming in around the same time. This heat-loving, Brazilian variety of broccoli was a crowd favorite last season, so we’ve put in an extra bed for this summer! After that, we’ll gradually start to move in to the summer crops. First will likely be the purple filet beans in the hoop house, with cucumbers and zucchini following, and eventually the ever-exciting tomatoes!

Check out this week’s full harvest list below and keep your eyes peeled each week for new additions to the market table!

I am SO excited that radishes are still available. Can hardly wait for Kohlrabi. Hope the weather this past week was a
little easier to take than previous weeks. It was snowing in Duluth last night so guess we’re lucky there!

Congratulations on such an exciting and copious harvest—I have learned so much about the varieties through your posts.—A delicious learning adventure. I love the yellow beets and will make sure to buy the Brazilian Broccoli, too–through your Mom if not in person!
