As we welcome everyone back to a new season on the farm, I first want to send our sincere thoughts out to everyone affected by the COVID-19 crisis. I know that it has had an impact on nearly all of our lives and I hope that you and your loved ones are all as safe as can be hoped.
In light of the developing situation with COVID-19, we have decided to temporarily suspend our farmers markets and instead run our business as a direct-to-door vegetable delivery service until we feel that the situation is safe enough for us to return to our markets. We will be offering our delivery service in the vicinity of our Burke, VA farmers market and in Jefferson County, WV. Customers can select their preferred products from our online store and the vegetables will be pre-packed and delivered directly to your door. Online orders will begin the week of April 6 with the first deliveries on the morning of Saturday, April 11 (which would have been the start date of the Burke farmers market). Click here to visit the Buy Online page of our website for more details. The Online Store page will be updated on April 6 with a “Shop Now” link, which will connect you directly from our website to our online store.
As farmers on our home property, we have experienced very little disruption to our work situation (aside from having our 4-year-old at home with us full time!) We are going ahead with our full planting schedule both in order to serve our delivery service and in the hopes that we will be returning to the markets before long. As farmers, we are operating on “plant time”, so much of the work happens months in advance of when we actually harvest any given crop. We already have all of the pepper, eggplant, and tomato seedlings growing, although these will not be planted outside until May and harvested until late July. Peas and carrots have been seeded in the field and the garlic that we planted last November is putting on more and more growth as the days lengthen and the temperatures rise. And, as always, our bounty of tasty baby and bunching greens are growing away in the unusually warm weather we’ve been having. We are moving forward anticipating our normal bountiful harvest for this season and hope that you will be able to join in this bounty as delivery customers!
As always, please be in touch if you have any questions or concerns. And again, we wish you all safety, health, and peace.
Sincerely,
Katie & Mike

March 28, 2020I love this idea and wish we were closer to be in the door to door pickup range. Your ingenuity is doing this and keeping Red Hawk Rise running smoothly is inspiring. Looking forward to seeing you buying often after this settles down. Very best of luck this spring!
