First snow, last market

It’s hard to believe that the 2019 season is truly reaching its end. This Saturday will be our last farmers market of the year and we want to thank each and every one of you for making this season more of a success than we could ever have imagined. Our sales at each of our farmers markets far exceeded our expectations and, in addition to our newly-added local CSA, have helped move our farm from a start-up venture to a successfully-operating business.

Even as we wrap up our 2019 season, the season ahead is already underway in some senses. Today, I’m finalizing our order for next year’s seeds and there will some exciting new additions. We will be adding spring cabbage and boosting up our fall harvest by introducing cauliflower to the mix. In the summer, not only will we be making new additions of tomato varieties, but we’ll also be adding okra for the first time! We’ll be mixing up our selection of baby greens by adding our hearty salad mix, which has previously only been available in the fall, into our spring rotation. And we’ll continue experimenting with new varieties of head lettuce to try to make it as far into the hot weather of summer as we can!

Many people ask what we do with our time off over the winter and the truth is that we actually don’t get that much time off at all! By mid-January, we’re already back into the swing of things as we begin seeding transplants in trays in the warmth of our basement and, once we hit early February, we’re back into extensive plantings in the hoop house, which provides the produce we rely on for the first few markets each year.

But as of now, we’re definitely ready for some down time, no matter how brief! We want to thank you again for all of your support over the last two seasons and we wish you a relaxing winter and a happy holiday seasons and can’t wait to see all of you again in April!
