I’m going to keep this week’s post short in honor of a special, non-farm event in our family- our son Caleb’s 5th birthday! Our son has the misfortune to have been born right at the peak of the farming season, so we always try to make an effort to take a day off to celebrate no matter how busy we are. It’s been fun watching our son grow up on the farm the last few years. As an almost-kindergartener, he is much more involved in the farm this year. He can identify a variety of insects, has favorite crops, and has helped with a variety of tasks from weeding to planting the potatoes (pictured above). And, for the first time this year, we set aside a spot on the farm for Caleb to plant his own garden. Today he brought in a bumper crop of peas from his pea plant and he’s been enjoying pulling his carrots and watching his chard plant (yellow- his favorite color!) grow.
As we continue to move from spring to summer crops on the farm, this will be the last week for a few cooler-weather items and we’ll be gradually moving into more and more of the heat-loving crops, starting with cucumbers and beans and gradually moving onto eggplant, peppers, and tomatoes. See the full harvest list below and the store will be open from noon until midnight on Thursday!

June 23, 2020So very happy you can take off for wonderful Caleb’s birthday! It has been so great to watch Caleb grow
up along w/the farm. Having his own garden is such a good idea. Love that he is harvesting his own
stuff. Very sad about the head lettuce. Glad I got such a gigantic one last week.
