This week has been the most humid yet. Wednesday felt like we were working in a lake, with the humidity sticking around 90% for most of the morning. With this more summer-y weather, we’re starting to see the onset of more of the summer pests and diseases, the latter of which I always find incredibly stressful. It’s hard to watch once beautifully perfect plants start to show the signs of the season. Most of our disease management regimen concentrates around rotating our crops, removing diseased plants when necessary, and helping the plants be healthy enough that they can withstand and grow through certain levels of damage. But it’s still hard to not wish that everything would just stay as healthy and beautiful as it was when first planted.
This week at the market, we’ll have the first big harvest of zucchini as well as more of the first purple filet beans from the hoop house. The snap peas are nearing their end for the season, so be sure to pick some up! See below for the full harvest list. We’ll see you Saturday at Burke. We won’t be at the Urbana market this Sunday but will be back the following week.

June 20, 2019I can’t even imagine how frustrating organic pest management must be. Its frustrating to work SO hard & then watch
your little plants get eaten up. How fortunate that so much of the produce is doing well & people are so happy &
excited to see what is available each week. Keep up your spirits. Job well done!

June 21, 2019Good luck with this humidity; so incredibly frustrating when you’ve taken such preventive care…but you’ll prevail. We will be enjoying snap peas tonight and thinking of you. Wishing you a profitable market, and a happy birthday Sunday with Caleb!
