It’s been incredibly hot this summer and this week looks like another scorcher. We’re lucky to have the flexibility to work in the morning and evening when it’s less oppressive out for both us and our son, who spends a lot of time on the farm with us during the summer. We try to involve Caleb in the farm as much as he likes and each of the past two years he has had his own small garden inside of the farm where he gets to choose what to grow. This year, along with beans, peas, and potatoes, he is also growing enormous sunflowers whose stalks can grow up to 12 feet tall and some sweet corn. I don’t grow corn as part of our farm rotation as it is such a heavy nitrogen feeder and because keeping pests out of sweet corn in organic production is extremely challenging, so it’s been exciting for Caleb to get to grow something that isn’t growing anywhere else on the farm and we’re certainly interested to see how it turns out!
Below is this week’s harvest list. The cherry tomatoes are continuing to ripen, so we hope to be bringing tomatoes to market in the near future!

July 13, 2021Another incredible photo. You did a great job showcasing that sunflower. We sure enjoyed going on the tour
of Caleb’s garden crops. I too am looking forward to his corn crop. We always wanted corn when we were
little & our mom finally relented & planted it in the garden. It was very exciting to actually eat the ears so
I hope Caleb gets afew to munch on. Glad you’re able to keep your schedule to the cooler parts of the day.
Be careful all week. List looks yummy.
